The Entertainment Corner recently had the opportunity to chat with Actor and Voice Over Artist Anthony Ingruber
Anthony just wrapped filming on Disney Channel Original Movie Avalon High (2010)
Art direction: Alicia Ingruber

TheEC- Hello Anthony. Thank you for taking time from your busy schedule to talk with me for The Entertainment Corner
AI- Hi Mireille
TheEC- I read that you had a truly international upbringing; growing up in Canada, Australia, Cyprus and New Zealand. Was all that traveling a positive experience for you?
AI- Although at times stressful, I generally find the experience of travel to be rewarding and greatly enjoyable.  Being able to interact with different cultures firsthand and experience the diversity the world has to offer is always very exciting.  I have made a great deal of close friends in all parts of the world and its very comforting to know that I have these ties available to me.  From an artistic view, it was also a huge benefit to me in terms of learning and practicing various accents which is immensely helpful for an actor
TheEC- What types of films do you enjoy watching?
AI- I spent most of my childhood intently watching many of my favorite films on a continuous loop.  I remember watching "Alien" starring Sigourney Weaver 5 times in a row when I had the flu.  I have a great love and respect for the movie industry, both from an audience and performer perspective.  My favorite films are those which evidently show a great deal of commitment and artistic dedication on the side of the cast and crew.  The works of Stanley Kubrick, Peter Jackson and Francis Ford Coppola are among those that I rank my favorite
TheEC- I’ve watched your YouTube videos, you do amazing impressions of Jack Nicholson and Harrison Ford, have you met either actor, or have you heard if they’ve seen your impressions?
AI- Unfortunately I have never had the pleasure to meet either Jack Nicholson or Harrison Ford, however spending my childhood watching their films has given me a familiarity with their nuances and distinctive styles which I try to capture in my impressions.  I'm unsure if either have seen the impressions themselves, but naturally I would be thrilled if they have!

TheEC- You worked for WETA Workshop, the world-renowned, Academy Award winning special effects company. What knowledge and experience gained at WETA do you feel most benefits you on your future projects?
AI- Working at Weta was a tremendous eye opener for me.  I had just finished high school and was unsure with what career I wanted to pursue but in my brief stay there, I was amazed with the calibre and dedication of the work the teams put into making a motion picture.  It was this level of commitment and professionalism that struck a chord with me and I knew that being involved in this industry was what I wanted to pursue.
TheEC- You recently wrapped working on Disney Channel's Next Original Movie, Avalon High. What was the experience like?
AI- Avalon High was my first significant on-screen role and I found the experience to be both exciting and nerve wracking.  It was intimidating at first, working alongside actors such as Steve Valentine and Britt Robertson but I quickly found myself adjusting to this and approached it professionally.  It was a fantastic crew and a great cast of actors and we all got along very well for the duration of the shoot. I ended up having a fantastic time on set, acting on camera and also off camera, by entertaining the cast and crew with my impressions.  I felt immensely lucky that my first experience of set life was such a positive one.

TheEC- In Avalon High you play ‘Sean’, a football player, do you play football in real life or was it a sport you learned for the role?
AI- Unfortunately I lack terribly in the sporting skills department but luckily I was able to rely on the skills of the "real" football players in the crew to carry the scenes in terms of believable playing; really I only had to look like I knew what I was doing on the field and so hopefully I pulled that off!
TheEC- Was there an opportunity for you to incorporate any of your impressions into the role of ‘Sean’ that you played in Avalon High?
AI- I try to avoid using impressions for roles in order to create original and interesting characters rather than imitate the style of another actor and bank on their success.  For this reason, unfortunately, you wont see Daniel Day- Lewis portraying a high school football player
TheEC- Do you have any stories from the set of Avalon High you would be able or willing to share?
AI- I have many hilarious stories about working on Avalon High but unfortunately most of them concern elements which I cant discuss at the moment; however one of the funniest moments on set was something that happened on the first day. Unfortunately, my inability to play football at a competent level had naturally leaked onto the set and between one of the takes, one of the cheerleaders made a sarcastic comment about this fact and in a reflex comeback I called the assistant director and announced "Excuse me, one of the extra's is talking to me".  The set fell quiet but soon laughter erupted and assured me they knew I was joking
TheEC- Thanks again Anthony and wish you continued success
AI- Thanks very much for the interview and hope you enjoy the final product
