Mission X

“You can’t kill a dead man!”

Mission X, by David Paul Baker, is a documentary style action-drama that will certainly appeal to soldiers, action film buffs, or anyone who has fought in combat.

Interviews with eye witnesses, and security camera footage of a gun battle in an alley way is the opening scene of the film.

Grant, an "Armchair warrior" and film student, links up with Ryan, a disillusioned mercenary from the Iraq wars, in hopes of interviewing him about missions, war and killing.

Ryan agrees to an interview with Grant, then Grant follows the mercenaries around on everything from reconnaissance work to trades with an arms dealer.

Grant begins to realize that Ryan has planned a suicide mission, a mission to attack a rival group of mercenaries.

Culminating in a tragic end, audiences are left watching Grant coming to grips with the painful realities of war and death.

Mission X was entirely self financed by David Paul Baker, costing about $6,400 USD/£4000 to make, including post production.

Choosing to create the film on micro budget may have been out of financial necessity for the film maker; however, it also adds to it's credibility. The realistic and gritty style genuinely gives the impression that a real film student was making a documentary about the mercenaries.
Audiences can expect to see moderate violence and hear a substantial amount of profanity used through out Mission X.  Admittedly, I lost count after about the 200th expletive was uttered.

Filmed and cast entirely in Scotland, some viewers might have a slight difficultly understanding all the dialogue, as the actors all speak with a Scottish brogue. The Scottish brogues did not impeded from my understanding any spoken dialogue.

A favorable decision on behalf of the film maker was adding subtitles to the bar scene, thereby ensuring no one would misunderstand what the characters were saying with the club music blaring in the background.

I would liked to have seen subtitles used in the scene where the mercenaries fought in the underground parking garage; the deafening sirens muted out all but the gun fire barrage.
